NUCCA is an acronym for the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association, and the upper cervical region is the area on the spine that is located directly under the skull. The NUCCA procedure focuses on misalignment of the head and neck, and the effect it has on posture.
There is no back-cracking and there are no instances where popping or twisting of the spine is needed. Rather, the NUCCA procedure is about as intense as having your pulse taken. Furthermore, it is guided by imaging to ensure the personalized adjusting angle is working as it should, both before and after treatment, to ensure proper Atlas alignment in the spine.
Gentle adjustments are the key, and they are never painful. If you’re looking to learn more about NUCCA chiropractic therapy, here’s an article that goes into more depth on the topic.
The majority of patients can reach a level of postural stability after 6 weeks of more frequent initial care that they can be discharged to a maintenance visit frequency of 2-8 week checkups. The remainder of healing will occur over the following year, and typically visit frequency will continue to decrease. Each patient case is unique, and may need more or less care.
